Impressions on Iron Gates Chapter Twenty-Four
Britta and Bluebird are presented with special contingents
This is a huge chapter, thirty-five pages in length, especially considering that there are chapters here as short as one or two pages. This one begins with the complete introduction of Britta and Bluebird, the development of their relationship, and the stated aim of the cult to have them be inseparable sisters. It continues to the presentation of special new troop contingents focused on biological and radioactive warfare.
During the first part of the story, we are told of the super strict punitive behavioral instruction to which Bluebird is submitted. Normally, this sort of instruction bears no functional fruit, but in this case, the constant psychological attack is aimed at creating a distorted and perturbed individual. To aid in this transformation, Bluebird is constantly given injections with chemicals unknown to her, right after her punitive sessions, that make her feel more aggressive.
After Britta is introduced to her, there comes a point when they are served meat, and more meat, more delicious dishes, by the reckoning of Bluebird. Britta, three years her junior, and more experienced in the field of savagery, courtesy of her mountain life, and a mother who taught her children the ways of ultimate predation, recognizes the meat as being that of humans. In this, there are mysteries and allies of discussion, not least of which is the transubstantiation of Jesus Christ.
Be that as it may, we move on to the presentation of special contingents in the service of the two girls, one psychotically engineered, the other already in full bloom of psychopathy and such tendencies needing only some reinforcement. These troops have been trained underground, in secret, and are fanatically driven in the service of the two girls.
That, in a nutshell, is the chapter.
Unlike summarily delivered chapters before, this is one of the most descriptive chapters, telling us that for the authors the full description and living of the scenes portrayed, indeed the extended visualization of these scenes, is of the utmost importance. That, from the psycho-magical point of view. However, it may only be that here is where the author’s main interest and curiosity lie.
